Abstract

Fourteen patients with congenital ventral penile curvature were hospitalized for the surgical correction of the penile deformity. Mean age was 22 (17-28) and all had trouble in sexual function.

All patients had severe penile curvature (30-60 degrees) so a combined surgical technique was performed in order to avoid penile shortening postoperatively. In the first step, corpus spongiosum was dissected and separated from the both corpora cavernosa. After this procedure the concave and fibrotic part of tunica albuginea that cause the curvature was incised several times, using cautery. If still some degree of curvature persisted, the patients would underwent corporal plication with sutures placed on dorsal part of the penis as a last step.

The follow-up period ranged from 19 to 40 months (mean 17 months). Postoperative complications such as impaired erection or loss of sensivity were not reported and none of the patients was upset with a shortened penis.

Long-term results of this modified surgical technique demonstrate excellent clinical outcome with a minimal morbidity.
