Abstract
Introduction: Varicocele is the most commonly seen and correctable cause of male infertility. This review
presents recent updates in the diagnosis and treatment of varicocele in light of current studies in the literature
based on the varicocele guideline of the Turkish Society of Andrology.
Physical examination is the most valuable in the diagnosis of varicocele, and imaging studies are not
indicated for the standard evaluation. The best treatment modality for varicocele repair should include
elimination of the varicocele with lower complication rates including hydrocele, recurrence and testicular
atrophy, and higher improvement in semen parameters and resulting in higher pregnancy rates. Therefore,
microsurgical varicocele repair should be preferred as an ideal technique in the treatment of varicocele.
