Abstract
Objective: To examine the relationship between asthenozoospermia (reduced sperm motility) and leukospermia.
Materials and methods: A total of 89 male patients, 36 with sperm motility disorder and 53 without any motility disorder, applying to the IVF Unit of Dokuz Eylul University Medical Faculty, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology were included in the study. Semen samples were examined in both macroscopic and microscopic levels. Makler counting chamber was used for the sperm motility and concentration analysis. Leukocytic stain was for the semen leukocyte analysis.
Results: Leukospermia was detected in only one (1.88%) of the 53 semen samples with no motility disorder and in three (8.34%) of the 36 semen samples with sperm motility disorder (p=0.303).
Conclusion: Although no significant correlation was determined between reduced sperm motility and leukospermia, further studies with more patients are needed for semen leukocyte analysis in asthenozoospermic cases which account for a significant proportion of all cases of male infertility.
