Abstract

Objectives: Lymphangioma circumscriptum is a rare benign disorder of skin and subcutaneous tissues charecterised by dilated lymphatic channels. The etiology is unclear, however, lymphatic obstruction has been suggested as a possible cause.

Material and Methods: A 12 - years old boy was referred to our department because of his penoscrotal vesicles dated back to 6 months. No evidence of trauma, allergic reaction, or insect bite was found. Excisional biopsy of the scrotal and penile lesions was interpreted as lymphangioma circumscriptum. After confirmation of the diagnosis, the effected entire scrotal and penile skin and subcutaneous tissue was excised. Reconstruction was achieved with residual scrotal and penile skin advancement. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lymphangioma circumscriptum. There was no sign of recurrence at follow up 9 months postoperatively.

Conclusion: Although lymphangioma circumscriptum of the penis and scrotum is an uncommon condition, it may be confused with other penoscrotal cutaneous diseases such as, genital warts, herpes simplex, herpes zoster and dermatitis herpetiformis. In this paper, we report a case with penoscrotal lymphangioma circumscriptum to alert others to this rare condition and to prevent unnecessary cytotoxic theraphies.
