Abstract

Introduction: Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) is a rare benign condition of unknown etiology characterized by proliferetive myofibroblasts, fibroblasts, histiocytes and occasionally plasma cells and lymphocytes. It is not a real neoplasm despite mimicking the tumor as clinically and radiologically. Although the etiology is unknown, there are some inflammatory episodes shown in its existence but any specific infective agent couldn’t found. Surgical resection is mostly performed in its treatment but there are also successful results taken by corticosteroid and antibiotic therapy. Forty years old patient treated with antibiotic therapy is presented with literatures in this case report, in which there was a malignant mass suspicion in retroperitoneum and kidney radiologically. Histopatological examination of biopsy material of the retroperitoneal mass was determined as inflammatory pseudotumor.
