Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find the rates of the external genital organ anomalies in boys attending primary school in Centrum of Diyarbakır city.
Two thousands first grade students elected randomly from 65 primary schools from a total of 10350 male students were examined by the same physician in their schools and external genital organ anomalies were detected.
One hundred and eight external genital organ anomalies were detected in 107 boys (5.35%). The most frequent anomalies were undescended testes, phimosis and inguinal hernia. Unfortunately the rates of external genital organ anomalies, which had to be operated much earlier, were quite high. All these untreated external genital organ anomalies could affect the child’s psychology negatively and may cause recurrent urinary tract infections, malignancy and infertility. So it is necessary to detect external genital organ anomalies earlier and treat them immediately.
