DEHIDROEPIANDROSTENEDION SULPHATE (DHEA-S) LEVELS IN ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION PATIENTS

The aim of this study is to compare serum DHEA-S levels in the patients suffered from erectile dysfunction to healthy volunteers.

Fifty-nine patients with erectile dysfunction aged from 25 to 67 years (mean age 45.7+/-1.23) were enrolled in the study. All patients were evaluated detailed history, serum biochemical analysis and penile Doppler ultrasonography. After these investigations, patients were divided into two groups as organic and psychogenic erectile dysfunction. Fifteen healthy volunteers without any erectile problem were assigned to control group. Serum DHEA-S levels were also evaluated in these patients. Results were analyzed by using Kruskall Wallins Variant analysis and Mann Whitney U tests.

Serum DHEA-S levels in organic and psychogenic erectile dysfunction patients and healthy volunteers were 263.4+/-6.7 (200-359), 205.6+/-10.03 (100-302), 292.19+/-10.6 (251-354) μg/dl, respectively. There was a significantly difference between the groups (p=0.000, p<0.05).

As a result, serum DHEA-S levels are lower in the erectile dysfunction patients without organic pathologies.
