Abstract

Abstract

The tubularized, incised plate urethroplasty (TIPU) has gained widespread acceptance for repairing distal hypospadias.

The charts of patients underwent TIPU hypospadias repair for distal hypospadias were reviewed by means of success rates, complications rates of this method and patient characteristics.

When charts were reviewed it seems that we had treated 22 patients with distal hypospadias by TIPU method between 1998 and 2001. Patients ages at surgery ranged from 3 to 23 years (median age 11.5 years). The preoperative meatal positions of urethra were subcoronal in 12 and coronal in 10. All patients were stented with urethral stent and suprapubic sistofix. All stents and sistofix were removed at postoperative 10th and 11th days respectively. The mean hospitalization time was 5 days (ranged 3 to 7 days). The mean follow-up time was 20 months (ranged from 4 to 34 months). Postoperative early complications were absent. Postoperative late complications were seen in 3 (13.63%) patients as urethral fistula.

As a result; we conclude that TIPU offers satisfactory functional and perfect cosmetic results with minimal complication rates in repair for distal hypospadias.
