Abstract

In recent years, Doppler US is a new important technigüe Which fof fiöt only measurement of diameter of vein but also for showing venous retrograde reflux. In this study, we investigated the difference of spermiogram With Doppler US in patients With pofhtâneous or valsalva induced reflux of varicoceles.

Thirty patients were iicluded İhto the study group with clinical varicoceles in general urological examination. Scrotal Doppler US was petfotted iri study gtoup after spermiograms were obtained. Bilateral spermatic cords are exâmindd With US ahd the diameter of the widest vein i# measured (with valsalva) and the presence of reflux is in- vestigated.

All patients have left varicocele. There was no relationship between varicocele grade and sperm count per ml. (p<0.05). There were ü6 stâtisticaliy significant telationship between varicocele grade, 30 and 60 min. motile sperm averages, and valsalva indüced öt 6pöfitâheöüs reflux (p>0.05). The average of the widest vein diameter in patients had valsalva induced or spontaneöüs reflux were 3.8 iam and 3.9 mm respectively (p-0.746). The same parameters were 2 and 1.8 mm in the right side (p-0.296). Avarâge of sperm count was 11 mil/ml in patients whose spontaneo- us reflux and patients whose valsalvâ indüced teflüx Was 14 mil/ml (p-0.647). 30 and 60 forward motile sperm ave- rages in patiens with spomtaneous and valsalva indüced reflux were 529 / 4790 and 48 / 36p in respectively (p20.613 / p<0.24).

There were no significant relationships between grade and sperm count, forward motility and spontaneous or valsalva induced reflux. In our study, sperm count, percentage of motile spermâtozoa were not different in varicoce- İ les that spontaneous and valsalva induced reflux.
